Community Activities

Outdoor warning system test

The cities of Troup and Whitehouse test the outdoor warning siren system the first Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. Should there be inclement weather the testing will be postponed to the following month.

Clothes Closet open

The Clothes Closet at the Church of Christ, 412 W. Duval in Troup, is open the first Tuesday of the month for those in need of clothing for their family. Doors are open 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m.

American Legion meetings Tuesday

Troup American Legion and Sons of the Legion will meet Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. at the legion hall.

Republican Club meets Tuesday

The Cherokee County Republican Club will be holding their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, Sept. 7, 6:30 p.m. at the Hong Kong Buffet 1644 S. Jackson, Jacksonville. Republican Justice of the Peace and Pct. 4 Commissioner candidates will guest speakers. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

WH Band Boosters meet Tuesday

The Whitehouse Band Boosters will meet Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. in the WHS band hall.

Dixie Masonic Lodge to meet

The Dixie Masonic Lodge #272 in Troup will meet Tuesday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at the lodge hall.

Game Time for Seniors

Game Time for Senior Citizens will be Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 1-3 p.m. at the Troup library. All senior citizens are welcome to attend.

Class of 2000 sets reunion

Graduates of Whitehouse High School from the class of 2000 are set to gather the weekend of Oct. 22- 23 to celebrate their 10-year reunion. Activities include Wildcat football game, after game party, Saturday family fun and dinner. All tickets must be purchased by Oct. 15. WH library offers JobView

The library continues a helpful service for its patrons as well as anyone else that wants or needs to use it. JOBView is a tool for job searches locally or nationally. JOBView networks with state workforce services, Internet job sites and local and regional employers and updates its jobs daily.

Library hours and activities

Regular library hours for the Whitehouse Community Library are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact the library at 903-839-2949 for more information.

Regular hours for the Cameron-J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 1-5 p.m., Thursday 3-7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call the library at 903-842-3101 for more information.

WH Recycle Center open

Regular hours of operation for the Whitehouse Recycle Center are on Wednesdays from 7-10 a.m. and 3:30-5 p.m. as well as the first and third Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. However with the Labor Day holiday, the center will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 4. Bring your recyclable paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. The Recycle Center is located on Railroad Avenue.

Troup American Legion hosts karaoke

Karaoke by Barbie Doll is held every Saturday from 6 p.m. until close at Troup American Legion Hall, 302 E. Magnolia, 903-842-3750.

VFW Post 1799 open daily

VFW Post 1799 on Rhone Quarter Road opens daily at 2:30 p.m. for members and guests. Each day offers a different activity such as competitive pool, karaoke and social hour. For information, visit www.vfw1799.org or call 903-561-3501.

Church Activities

Whitehouse UMC hosts breakfast

The First United Methodist Church of Whitehouse hosts breakfast the first Saturday of the month from 8- 10 a.m. A full breakfast meal is served and donations are accepted. The church is located at 405 W. Main.

Bluegrass gospel in Troup

Troup Bluegrass Gospel Music will meet at the Troup library on the first Saturday of each month. Admission is free, doors open at 5 p.m. Music starts at 6 p.m. For additional information contact Tony Hearon 903-714- 5976.
