Community Activities

Troup Sons of the Legion to meet

Troup Sons of the Legion will meet Thursday, May 8 at 6 p.m. at the legion hall.

Jacksonville College Commencement

Jacksonville College will hold the 2008 Commencement at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9 in Buckner Chapel. Friends and family of students participating in the ceremony are invited to celebrate this completion of the first phase of the college education. Gerald Orr, Chair of the college's Music Department, will address the students. Everyone is invited to a reception honoring the graduates in the College Cafeteria immediately following the ceremony.

Arts and Crafts Bazaar scheduled

Trinity Mother Frances FamilyCare Pediatrics will host an Arts and Crafts Bazaar on May 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Christian Church, located at 4202 South Broadway. Proceeds benefit Children's Miracle Network at Mother Frances Hospital. The event includes over 35 vendors with unique and specialty items. For more information, call Don Horn at 903-593- 1892.

Henry Marsh Bell Masonic Lodge meeting

Henry Marsh Bell Masonic Lodge #1371 will meet Monday, May 12 at 7 p.m. at the lodge hall. All Masonic Brothers are welcome to attend.

Troup American Legion Auxiliary to meet

Troup American Legion Auxiliary will meet Tuesday, May 13 at 6 p.m. at the legion hall.

Shattered Dreams parent workshop

The public is invited to attend a workshop on what concerned adults can do to deter underage drinking. The workshop is in conjunction with the Shattered Dreams program being held May 13-14 at Whitehouse High School. Parents and other community adults will meet at 7 p.m. in the lecture hall of WHS to hear speakers from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, to brainstorm and discuss ideas and view a video entitled Party 101: Consequences.

Vietnam Vets meet

Vietnam Veterans of America will meet on Thursday, May 15 at Traditions at 7 p.m. All veterans are welcome. For info, Robbie 903-876-4935 or Roger 903-570-0618.

Whitehouse library activities

Story time is every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Regular library hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11-4. Questions? Call the library at 903-839- 2949 or email at whitehouselibrary@hotmail.com.

WH Recycle Center

Regular hours of operation for the Whitehouse Recycle Center are on Wednesdays from 7-10 a.m. and 3:30-5 p.m. as well as the first and third Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Bring your recyclable paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. The Recycle Center is located on Railroad Ave.

School Activities

WH Prom meeting

Junior parents are still needed to help with WH prom. Come Thursday, May 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Commons to work.

Softball tournament postponed

The Troup Young Farmers slow-pitch softball tournament scheduled for May 10 has been postponed. When a new date is set, it will be publicized. Contact Preston Lindsey at 903-842- 3586.

WHS Band concert and supper

The WHS spring band concert will be held Monday, May 12 at 7 p.m. in the Arena. Come at 5 p.m. for hamburger supper fundraiser.

WHS reunion

WHS classes of 1970-1975 are seeking contact information on former classmates. Visit their website at www.classcreator.com/Whitehouse-Tx-1974 to pass along information and see what the plans are for the Sept. 20 reunion.

Government Activities

Troup City Council to meet

The regular monthly meeting of the Troup City Council is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13. The meeting will be held at the Troup Municipal Library, 102 S. Georgia.

Troup trustees to meet

Troup ISD trustees meet Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 at the Troup ISD Administration Office at 201 N. Carolina.

WISD trustees to meet

The Whitehouse ISD trustees will meet on Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. in the Wildcat Drive Annex, 109 Wildcat Drive.
