Community Activities

Jam session and sing along

Jam session and sing along runs from 1:30-4 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate. Acoustic instruments only. Music includes Country, Bluegrass and Gospel. TASCA members are free. Guests are $1 each. TASCA is located at 10495 CR 2167 (Jim Russell Rd), Whitehouse.

Young Farmers set new time

Troup Young Farmers will have a meeting Monday, Aug. 31 at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at the Troup High School. Make plans to attend especially if showing projects at the East Texas State Fair.

Clothes Closet open

The Clothes Closet at the Church of Christ, 412 W. Duval in Troup, is open the first Tuesday of the month for those in need of clothing for their family. Doors are open 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m.

Outdoor warning system test

The cities of Troup and Whitehouse test the outdoor warning siren system the first Tuesday of each month. Troup’s system is tested at 11 a.m. and the Whitehouse system is tested at 1 p.m. Should there be inclement weather the testing will be postponed to the following month.

Dixie Masonic Lodge to meet

The Dixie Masonic Lodge #272 in Troup will meet Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. at the lodge hall.

AARP driver safety program offered

The next AARP Driver Safety course is set for Wednesday, Sept. 2, 12:30-4:40 p.m., at Green Acres Baptist Church. The cost for AARP members is $15 with non-members paying $20. After completion of the 4 hour course you may be entitled to a discount on your automobile insurance. Contact Harry H. Game Time for Seniors

Game Time for Senior Citizens will be Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 1-3 p.m. at the Troup library. All senior citizens are welcome to attend.

Church Activities

Bascom UMC hosts breakfast

The Bascom United Methodist Church on FM 848 hosts breakfast the last Saturday of the month from 8 - 9:30 a.m. A full breakfast meal is served and donations are accepted.

Fifth Sunday singing

The Henry's Chapel United Methodist Church will host a spirit-filled singing for the surrounding communities on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m., followed by a fellowship meal. The church is located six miles east of Troup on FM 13. For more information, please contact Don Gray, choir director, at 903-842-4474.

Government Activities

Troup trustees to meet

Troup ISD trustees will meet at noon on Monday, Aug. 31 at the Troup ISD Administration Office at 201 N. Carolina for a budget hearing.
