Weight loss support group meets Mondays

The Tyler Area Low Glycemic Weight Loss Support Group meets every Monday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 5111 Troup Highway, Suite 108 (corner of Shiloh and Troup Hwy.) in Tyler. Meetings are free. For more information, call 903-839-7634.

Karing Kitchen

The Karing Kitchen offers free hot meals to anyone in need on Monday evenings from 6-7 p.m. The Karing Kitchen is sponsored by five Tyler Churches of Christ and is located at 420 W. Erwin in the fellowship building of West Erwin Church of Christ. For information, call 903-592-0809.

Fruit tree care clinics scheduled for Jan. 28

Two fruit tree care clinics have been scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 28, in Cherokee County. The first will begin at 10 a.m. at Guinn Plant Farm located on Highway 69 between Rusk and Jacksonville just north of the airport. The second will begin at 1 p.m at the Courtyard Gardens at Joe Smith Plant Farm on Highway 79 northeast of Jacksonville just past Cherokee Country Club. Joe Daniel, horticultural agent with the Texas Cooperative Extension will conduct the clinics. Variety selection, planting, training, pruning and pest management will be discussed. Gardeners are invited to bring samples for identification. Each clinic will last about 2 hours and gardeners are welcome to come and go any time during the sessions. Production of the dozen or so fruit crops commonly grown in East Texas will be discussed.

Senior Citizen Game Day is Feb. 1

Game Day for Senior Citizens is Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the Troup Library. All senior citizens are invited to attend.

Troup Academic Booster Club meets Jan. 28

The Troup Academic Booster Club will meet Saturday, Jan. 28 at 9 a.m. in the new Administration Building across from the elementary school. Young Performers Series debuts at Up-A-Creek

Premiering this Friday for the first installment of Up-ACreek’s Young Performers Series is the Whitehouse/Arp duo of Kyle Ward & Jeff Grochowski playing original acoustic tunes. Catch this young talent from 7-8:30 p.m. There is a small cover charge. Playing Saturday night’s regular music offering is Cindy Grayson & the White Oak Creek Band from 7:309:30 pm. There is a cover charge.
