Emory Steve Alston Services for Emory Steve Alston, 62, Troup, will be held Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Jeter officiating. Military graveside services will be in the Bradford Cemetery, Troup, under direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup. Mr. Alston died Oct. 29, at his residence. He was born April 27, 1944, in Bokchito, Okla., to the late Emory Lee and Daisy Belle Jones Alston. He lived most of his life in Troup and graduated from Troup High School in 1962. He moved to West Texas where he worked as a ranch hand, served in the Navy where he was an Engineman Third Class petty officer and spent three years on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock, which received two citations from the president during the Vietnam War. He attended Tyler Junior College, worked for Lindale Canning Co., Carrier, Transit Mix, Basters of Jacksonville and Nichols, and he was a diesel mechanic. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Troup. He was preceded in death by brother, Billy Thomas Alston. Survivors include sisters, Mar y Alston, Troup, and Nancy Etheridge, Bonham; nieces and nephews: Pallbearers will be R. L. Etheridge, John Emory Etheridge, Thomas Shiflet, Joe Taylor, Gary Swiney and Mark Ellis. Honorary pallbearers will be William Etheridge and Charlie Soape.
