High School Report
High school reports success in and out of classroom
Principal Derek Driver

Troup High School plans to "Make It Happen" in 2006-2007, by living up to this motto both in and out of the classroom. The fall semester has gone by very quickly and THS has already had a great deal of success both academically and in our extracurricular activities. The students, faculty, and staff are working very hard to make sure we continue the great start we have had through the first twelve weeks of school. Here are just a few of the things THS has already accomplished this fall:

Troup High School received an appeal back from the Texas Education Agency changing the school's status from Academically Acceptable to Recognized based on TAKS scores

from the spring of 2006. THS is the only high school in

Smith County to receive this honor. Along with the Recognized status, Troup High School was also acknowledged by TEA in the following areas: Advanced Course/Dual Enrollment Completion Comparable Improvement in Reading ELA Recommended High School Program

Texas Success Initiative in Mathematics

The Troup High School band received a 1st Division rating at the UIL marching contest held at Lobo Stadium in Longview on October 21st. This is the third year in a row the THS band has achieved this honor.

The Troup High School majorettes competed at Solo and Ensemble contest in Lufkin on October 25th and received a 1st division which qualifies them to compete at the state Solo and Ensemble contest in the spring. Five of the majorettes received 1st division on their solos as well.

The Troup Tiger Varsity football team has clenched a playoff berth in district 19AA with two games remaining. Troup High School's first playoff game will take place November 16th, 17th, or 18th. The first round opponent and stadium where the game will be played is still to be determined.

The cross country team competed in Tatum on October 23rd and had three boys finish in the top 13 places and all athletes finished in the top 23. Jake Herrington placed 10th and will compete at the regional meet in Humble, Texas the weekend of November 4th and 5th.

Volleyball just completed their most successful district season in recent history by finishing in 4th place in the district.

As mentioned, Troup High School has had a very successful fall semester so far. Along with all aforementioned achievements, we have several upcoming activities scheduled from which we expect outstanding results.

Both the boys' and girls' basketball teams are beginning their seasons. The girls have their first game on November 14th and the boys' first game will be November 20th. Both games are at Troup and will begin at 5:00 pm.

The high school and elementary school have joined together to put on a fall Christmas play, "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever." Performances will be November 30th and December 11th in the school auditorium at 7:30pm.

Several of the high school yearbook staff members will be attending the National Journalism Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, from November 9th through November 11th.

At Troup High School we are striving to provide the best educational experience possible for all of our students. This experience starts with the hard work and high expectations we have in the class room and carries over to any activity involving our students and staff outside the class room. Again, the motto at Troup High School is "Make It Happen" and the students and staff at THS are working hard to make sure it does.
