CELEBRATING VETERANS DAY
Campuses hosting several events

Photo/Suzanne Loudamy Brown students created a "wall of honor" using photos of friends and family who have served in the military.
Troup and Whitehouse citizens will have the opportunity to honor veterans and celebrate their service to America at several events Friday and Saturday.

"A Celebration of Heroes" will mark the sixth Veterans Day program at Whitehouse Junior High. This event is Friday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. in the C. L. Nix Gym. This student-led event will feature a multi-media presentation created to honor family and friends who have defended

the freedoms everyone enjoys today. The eighth grade band will perform patriotic music and marches as a tribute to veterans. Students of the Visual Arts Department will display their artwork in the foyer of the gym. The students' works illustrate symbols of freedom in this country.

Everyone in the community is invited to share in this tribute, according to organizers. Veterans and their families are encouraged to attend. For those who have family currently serving in the military, a special invitation is extended.

Students at Cain Elementary are hanging banners in their halls with the names of family members who have served or are currently serving in the U.S. military.

Brown Elementary will honor home- town heroes on Friday at 1:30 p.m. with the presentation of colors and the pledge of allegiance being led by Boy Scout Pack #359. Tony Black, principal of WHS, and Brown's own Mary Kay Wisener will perform patriotic music. Dr. Kenneth Muckelroy will share with the students, "Why I Chose to Serve." The program will continue with a DVD photo montage and Dr. Muckelroy will close with the playing of Taps.

Higgins Intermediate students are constructing a Wall of Fame with names of veterans along with a program that begins at 8:30 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Troup veterans and their spouses as well as surviving spouses of veterans are invited to attend a fish fry on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. The Troup American Legion Hall is located at 302 E. Magnolia.
