Parade schedules announced The City of Troup will hold its annual Christmas parade on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. Chamber president Mike Cline said participants should report to the Brookshire's parking lot and be directed to their spot in line. Staging will begin at 5:30 p.m. "Since our parade is at night, the entries should be lighted," Cline said. "Awards will be given for the best parade entry and a runner up as well as best decorated business downtown." The parade route will begin at Brookshire's and travel down Hwy. 110 to Georgia Street then turn right ending at the library. Santa will wrap up the parade and meet with children at the library. Tree lighting will follow. Businesses, churches or organizations interested in joining the parade can contact the Chamber at 903-842-4113. The annual Whitehouse Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9 beginning at 10 a.m. It is sponsored by the Greater Whitehouse Area Chamber of Commerce. The parade features bands, scouts, dance teams, floats built by businesses and organizations, dignitaries, the 2006 YesterYear Princess, Shriners and, of course, Santa. Groups will begin staging in the stadium parking lot. The parade will make its way around the junior high complex and enter Hwy. 110 and proceed south to FM 346 where it will turn east to the park and disband near the library. "We need you," said Brent Conaway, Chamber president and parade coordinator. "We would like to see this be the biggest and best parade ever." If your business, church, or organization would like to participate, contact Conaway at 903-839-3939. Immediately following the parade, the Whitehouse Civic Women's League will host "Christmas in The Park" featuring the decorating of the Community Christmas Tree. Children of all ages are invited to come to the park until 1 p.m. to make decorations for the tree, enjoy festive music and visit with Santa.
