Freshmen lose at home The Whitehouse freshman team finished the season at home against Nacogdoches and wound up on the losing end of a close game, 26-24. The visiting Dragons would strike first on a short TD run, but the missed two point conversion made the score, 6-0. The Wildcats came right back with a Roderick Johnson TD run, and with the PAT by Taylor Burns, they would take a 7-6 lead. The Dragons took the lead 12-7 before Burns connected on a 27-yard field goal to make the score 12-10. The Dragons extended their lead to 18-10 right before the end of the half on another TD run. The Wildcats started the second half off with a good kickoff return by David Godinez to the 45-yard line. From there, QB Payton Smith found Carl Caldwell on the first play from scrimmage on a 55-yard TD completion. Johnson carried it in for the two point conversion to tie the score at 18 all. The Dragons scored late in the third period and add the two point conversion to regain the lead 26-18. The Wildcats came right back when Kevin Hickman caught a screen pass from Smith and race 75 yards for the TD. The two point conversion failed, and that would end the scoring on the night at 26-24. Other members of the offense playing well on the night were Josh Wilson, Ben Miles, Josh Adams, Ethan Cavett, Tyler Bloom and Joey Coggins. On the defensive side of the ball, Godinez, Logan Taylor, Julio Aleman, Caldwell, Travis Conn, Hickman, Cayden McDonald, Coggins, Montrell Walker, Xavier Hawkins and Gabe Wilson would all have solid efforts. "We had a successful year in that we learned to believe in ourselves and never quit," said Coach Donald Garlitz. "Even though we lost more games than we won, the winning attitude was there and will carry over into our off season and into next year," said Coach Garlitz. The freshmen ended the year with a 4-5-1 record and 2-4- 1 in district play. |
