Junior high students make patriotic posters

Whitehouse Junior High students participated in the "American Pride Drawing" contest in conjunction with Veterans Day. The winning posters were on display in the entrance of the gym for visitors to the annual Veterans Day program to view.
Grand prize winner Alexandra Calloway, eighth grade, received $25. Other winners were: first
place, Keerin Dewet, eighth grade; second place, Johana Barahona, eighth grade; third place (tie), Baylen Dudley, eighth grade, and Brandon Cottrell, seventh grade; and honorable mention, Hunter George, seventh grade.
The theme for this year was "Honor All Who Serve," according to Tina Penney, visual arts teacher. The kids were asked to brainstorm
"what symbolizes American patriotism" and to utilize those symbols and patriotic colors to in their artworks, said Penney. They were allowed to use a variety of mediums: colored markers, colored pencils, pastels, charcoal, etc. to create their original pieces of art. They were also instructed to utilize the elements and principles of art design to effectively create their composition.
