Lady Cats play Wills Point tourney

The Lady Cat varsity basketball team participated this past weekend in the Wills Point tournament over three days, which saw the Lady Cats defeat Dallas Spruce 56-20, Terrell 57-33, and Carrolton 59-20 before falling to Princeton, 19-38.

The Dallas Spruce game saw the Lady Cats play great pressure defense, and Brittani Toole led the way with 16 points followed by Kaycee Renn with 13. Toole would again lead the Lady Cats in scoring with 21 points in the Terrell game.

Kayla Mason would provide 14 points and 4 steals in another game which saw the Lady Cats turn up the heat on the defensive end forcing turnovers which would lead to easy scoring opportunities.

In the Carrolton game, Caroline Perrier would hit three 3-pointers on her way to a game high 13 points. She would be followed by Shelly Williams and Toole with 10 points each.

The Princeton game would see the Lady Cats get off to a slow start and never recover as Toole would lead the way with 8 points.

Troup boys, girls lose doubleheader

The Tiger varsity squads dropped matches to Grace Community on the Cougar’s home court Tuesday night.

Cordell Jiles led the way for Troup with 11 points in the 41-55 loss. Reginald Wade contributed on all fronts before fouling out in the final period, notching 8 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists.

Janna Ross scored almost half of the Lady Tigers’ points in the 39-59 loss. In addition to 19 points, Ross also pulled down 14 boards.

Outside shooting lifts WHS over Lee

The varsity Lady Cats made seven three-point shots, compared to Robert E. Lee’s single trey, giving them the edge Tuesday night at home in Wildcat Arena. The 52-38 victory gives the Lady Cats a 7-5 record.

Kayla Mason hit four of WHS’s treys to lead the team with 12 points. Caroline Perrier also added a pair, totaling 10 points o n the night.

“Our outside shooting was excellent tonight,” said head coach Willie Hill.

Lee led midway through the first period before the Lady Cats pulled ahead thanks to their long-distance accuracy, going on a 14- 0 run to take the lead for good.

Both Lee and Whitehouse will be in action this weekend in the East Texas Shootout in Brownsboro. Dawkins & Co. defeat John Tyler

The Wildcat varsity was in action Tuesday night as they defeated the John Tyler Lions 44-32 at John Tyler High School.

The Wildcats would build a 21-10 lead at the half, but the Lions would spark a comeback in the third quarter cutting the lead to 30- 22 by the end of the period.

The comeback would continue in the fourth quarter, as the Lions would tie the game at 30 all before the Wildcats would finish the game with a 14-2 run for the win.

Cade Clark would lead the Wildcats with 17 points including 7 down the stretch while Brady Parker added 11. With the win, the Wildcats extended their season record to 9-1.

Next up for the Wildcats is their annual trip out west to the Abilene tournament starting today and going through the weekend.

Wildcat JV wins on the road, 65-37

The Whitehouse JV picked up a big road win Tuesday night defeating John Tyler 65-37.

The Wildcats would bust the game open in the fourth quarter as they would outscore the Lions 23-3 to blow the game open.

The win extends the JV’s record to 4-1 on the year as they head to Longview tonight for an 8:30 game in the opening round of the Longview tournament.

The freshmen would fall to the Lions 55-42 which evens up their record on the year at 3-3. They return to action next Friday as they travel to T.K. Gorman.

Lady Cat JV brings record to 5-2

The Lady Cat JV recently played in the Wills Point tournament this past weekend.

In the first game, they faced the host team from Wills Point. Haley Aldridge would lead the way with 20 points as the Lady Cats would pull away in the second half for a 47-24 victory. Alexa Fisher would follow Aldridge with 9 points of her own in the win.

In the second game, the Lady Cats would fall to the hot shooting of West Mesquite 44-21. Aldridge would again lead the way with 9 points.

In the final game, the Lady Cats defeated Edgewood 31-21. Tori Wirts would lead the way with 10 points while Regan Hawkins would chip in 8 for the win.

The two wins in the tournament gives the JV a record of 5-2 on the season. They will return to action today at the John Tyler tournament that runs through Saturday.
