Community Activities

Project Joy collections continue

Whitehouse schools, churches and organizations continue collecting money and non-perishable can goods for Project Joy. If you would like to help and want to know how, contact Ray Baldwin at Tyler Metro Church.

Donuts with Santa

Whitehouse YMCA is hosting “Donuts with Santa” on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 9-9:30 a.m. Pictures will be taken with Santa from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. and are $2 per picture. For information, call 903-839-9622.

Whitehouse library activities

The Whitehouse Library offers these activities: Story time is on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and scrapbooking nights are the third Friday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Come visit the library!

Weight loss support on Monday

The Tyler Area Low Glycemic Weight Loss Support Group meets every Monday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at 5111 Troup Hwy., Ste. 108 (corner of Shiloh and Troup Highway) in Tyler. Meetings are free. For more information, call 903-839-7634.

American Legion hosts karaoke

Troup American Legion Post 418 has karaoke every Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Karing Kitchen

The Karing Kitchen offers free hot meals to anyone in need on Monday evenings from 6-7 p.m. The Karing Kitchen is sponsored by five Tyler Churches of Christ and is located at 420 W. Erwin in the fellowship building of West Erwin Church of Christ. For information, call 903-592-0809.

Hayride with Santa set for Dec. 23

The Whitehouse Community Library is hosting its third annual Hayride with Santa event Saturday, Dec. 23. The evening will begin at 4 p.m. with Christmas stories, a few songs for practice and then the hayride. Participants will stop at Oakbrook Health Care Center to help Santa and his elves hand out candy and books to the residents. The hayride concludes with a return trip to the library where treats will be waiting. Children will then have the chance for a oneon one visit with Santa to share their Christmas wishes. Pictures will be available for a small fee. Space is limited so reservations are required. Drop by the library to fill out a reservation form, or call 903-839-2949 with questions.

Church Related Activities

Candle lighting service Dec. 24

First Presbyterian Church of Troup will hold the annual Candle Lighting Service Sunday, Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. The church is located at the corner of S. Carolina and Calvert St. Everyone is invited to attend. There will be no morning service on that Sunday.

School Related Activities

Troup MS hosts supper

The Troup Middle School 8th grade class will be hosting a Baked Potato Supper on Monday, Dec. 18 from 4:30-6 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Immediately following the dinner will be the Troup Middle School and High School band concerts. Proceeds from the dinner will go toward the 8th grade trip to Galveston.
