WJHS Band students earn regional honors

Select Whitehouse Junior High School Band members auditioned for the Region 21 All Region Band on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Jacksonville High School. There were more than 600 students and about 25 schools represented in the auditions.
Using five-person Olympicstyle judging, only the top musicians were selected for membership on one of three All-Region bands Honors, Symphonic and Concer t. These students will rehearse and perform in concert for the public on Jan. 20, 2007 at Hallsville High School.
The following students were ranked at the auditions: Dana Pierce flute, Jackson Driggs alto saxophone, Kim Carpio alto saxophone, Brian Western trumpet, Cedrick Crawford euphonium, Erica Hoffman percussion.
Cameron Gorbett, euphonium, and Aaron Uribe, trombone, were selected as alternates.
Earning membership in the Concert Band were: Seth Swinney 6th chair alto saxophone, Rebekah Bush 2nd chair french horn, Chelsea Ivy 7th chair trombone, Travis Carter 10th chair trombone, and Scott Sanders 8th chair tuba.
Musicians selected for membership in the Symphonic Band were: Haley Spencer 10th chair B flat clarinet, Rachel Keiningham 15th chair B flat clarinet, Stephanie Recchia 23rd chair B flat clarinet, Camr yn Crone 13th chair trumpet, Gwyne Dunlap 1st chair french horn, Meagan Kenney 3rd chair french horn, Caroline Weathers 8th chair french horn, Emmanuel Guiterrez 2nd chair euphonium, Timothy Cummins lst chair percussion, and Perry Hill 5th chair percussion.
Students earning membership in the Honors Band were: Kate Mohr 3rd chair flute, April Fleming 7th chair flute, Brookelyn Skiver 14th chair B flat clarinet, Chase Magness 2nd chair alto saxophone, Peyton Beasley 7th chair french horn, James Moran 2nd chair percussion, and Jessica Fite 6th chair percussion.
These musical accomplishments are a result of many hours of serious practice on music fundamentals and musicianship, said Jerry Gober, WJHS band director. These students are to be commended for their musicianship, maturity, leadership and dedication to musical excellence.
The Whitehouse Junior High band is under the direction of Gober and Joe Hewitt.
