      Editor, The shooting death of Lynn Smith in Whitehouse was a tragedy and a travesty. Surely the Texas Rangers will not rule that the policeman's actions were justifiable. It is very telling that the officer threw her husband on the couch so he would not be interferred with and would have a clear shot.

TJC president says governor 'levied tax' on college students
      Tyler Junior College President Dr. William R. Crowe this week called Gov. Rick Perr y's proclamation veto of health insurance benefit funding for the state's 50 community colleges "insensitive" and said the governor has "levied a tax on access to higher education.
