New reserve officer joins Troup PD

Troup Police Department is pleased to welcome Officer Peggy Scott as the newest addition to their team of reserve officers. Officer Scott comes to the Troup PD with 10 years of experience with the Smith County Sheriff's Department. She has an extensive history in work with sex offender registration and sexual assault investigation. In her years with Smith County, she worked out of the Child Advocacy Center office.

Officer Scott carries a special investigations certification along with an expertise in training other officers in the field of sex related crimes.

"We will have her giving special training to our current officers," said Chief Pat Hendrix. "She is a great asset to our department."

This is just one more step in Chief Hendrix's plan to clean up Troup.

The chief, along with Officer Scott and city administrators, will be combing through current ordinances and ensuring that all local and state regulations concerning sex offenders and their proper registration are being enforced when it comes to the safety of the public.

In addition to Officer Scott, Troup PD receives additional support through the work of two other reserve officers. Officers John Harmon and David Smith have been with the Troup PD since Chief Hendrix took the helm. A reserve officer has all the same powers and authority, when on duty, as a regular police officer has.
