James Franklin

Services for James Franklin, 92, Troup, were held Dec. 28 at New Hope Conglee Church with the Revs. Ernest Dews and Billy P. Cleaver offi-ciating.

Burial was in the Franklin Section of Liberty Troup Cemetery under direction of Community Funeral Home of Tyler.

Mr. Franklin died Dec. 21, in a Tyler hospital.

He was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Troup and was a lifelong Smith County resident. He attended Blackjack public schools and had been a construction worker at Green Acres Baptist Church and John Allen Water Well. He retired as a custodian from Tyler Independent School District and was a member and deacon of New Hope Conglee Church and member of Masonic Family DeWitt Lodge No. 429. He was preceded in death by sons, Ennis MacArthur Franklin, Robert Terry Franklin and Quinton Charles Franklin.

Survivors include his wife, Linnie M. Franklin, Troup; sons, James E. Franklin, Houston, Paul D. Franklin, Whitehouse, Ben R. Franklin, Arp, and Jackie Franklin; Troup; daughters, Verlene Ford, Dallas, Mary Ellen Jackson, Palo Alto, Calif., Nellie Taylor, Jacksonville, and Waldean Hammonds, Whitehouse; brothers, J.C. Franklin, Dallas, Lynn Franklin, Houston, Jethro Franklin, Portland, Ore., Charles Franklin, San Antonio; W.X. Franklin, Tyler, and Winfred Franklin, Kilgore; sisters, Malora Johnson, Troup, Gladys Butler, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mary Isabell, Tyler; and 15 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Anthony Ford; Roosevelt Franklin, Paul L. Jackson Jr., Byron Franklin, Dudley Franklin and Jeffrey Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Masonic Family DeWitt Lodge No. 429 and deacons of New Hope Conglee Church.
