The Tails to Trout fishing event drew large crowds, with 325 people attending the first Saturday on Jan. 6. "I think this was the largest single-day turnout in the history of The Nature Center," said Dave Terre, East Texas Regional Fisheries director. The combined total for both Jan. 6 and Jan. 13 was 451 (268 kids and 183 adults). "It rained nonstop on the second day of the event, consequently our turnout was a bit less," said Terre. For those brave 126 who did participate on the rainy second Saturday, their perseverance was rewarded as the fish were biting and the kids kept 218 trout and seven catfish. On day one, the kids kept 151 trout and 21 catfish. Many more fish were caught and released during the two-day event, sponsored by the East Texas Woods and Water Foundation and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
