Things just 'duckie' at Whitehouse library

What are two rubber duckies doing floating in a bowl of Hawaiian Punch at the Whitehouse Community Library? Having a birthday bash!

Excited rubber duckie owners braved the "duck-friendly" weather and flooded the library on Saturday, Jan. 13. They sang "Happy Birthday," ate cake and drank punch all to celebrate the birthday of that wonderful bath toy, the rubber duckie.

A wading pool was provided for the duckies to socialize and get acquainted. Later, the rubber duckies were proudly displayed by their owners as certificates were awarded for the Smallest Duckie, "Reddest," "Pinkest" and Most Traveled, etc.

The library's ducks were dressed in their sports uniforms and served as hosts for the party.

Rubber duckies have a long history. They were patented by Elam Fisher of the Detroit area in 1870.

Most babies receive rubber duckies during their first two years of life. They become cherished possessions whose owners have fond memories of splashing in the tub.

They have become fads and tub drains and the subject of jokes.
