Souper Sunday set Feb. 4 at library

If you think Super Bowl Sunday is all about football, better think again. In Troup, it is all about soup. The Friends of the Troup Library will be dishing up big steaming cups of a variety of soups on Feb. 4, Souper Sunday (and also Super Bowl Sunday) in the Community Room at the Library. The ladles will be operating from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Debbie Renson, chair of the 2007 Souper Sunday committee, describes this event as a fun community get-together that helps raise needed funds for the library. She invites everyone to come enjoy the super soups and desserts made by Troup's super cooks.

"Enjoying a good meal at the library will not interfere with anyone's enjoyment of the Super Bowl football game," Ms. Renson says. "Guests will have plenty of time to get home before the game - and they won't have to worry about cooking in and cleaning up their own kitchens."

The Souper Bowl lunch is quite a bargain. The full meal will include a choice of soups, accompanied by a variety of crackers; a choice of desserts; and coffee, tea and fruit punch. Adults can soup up for $5 each. Children under 12 can enjoy the meal for $3. All proceeds go to support the Troup library.

Last year, the Friends of the Library did not offer the Souper Sunday event, and many members were taken to task for the omission.

"This year, Souper Sunday is back by popular demand, and I do mean demand," said Navoliene Roddy.

Tickets are on sale now at the Troup Library and from Souper Sunday committee members. Guests can also buy their tickets at the door.
