TJC seeks resignation of head football coach

Tyler Junior College has asked Jamie Critchlow to resign from his duties as head football coach, following an internal conduct review, the college announced.

Critchlow, head coach since January 2005, has asked for 24 hours to allow the opportunity for legal counsel.

Following a meeting Wednesday involving Critchlow and college representatives, the college issued the following statement:

"Coach Critchlow has been suspended for conduct unbecoming a TJC employee in response to his arrest by Tyler Police for driving while intoxicated on Jan. 21. Our college takes very seriously the personal conduct of its coaches, the roles they play in the lives of young adults and the influence they have on students and the public."

"After a careful review, we feel there is no choice but to seek Critchlow's resignation."

"To our football players, students and the public, we pledge a commitment to recruit and expect the very best from our program. Our assistant coaches will continue to work hard to ensure the success and integrity of TJC football."

In two seasons as head coach, Critchlow's Apaches had 9 wins and 9 losses.

Critchlow replaced Dale Carr in January 2005. Carr had served as head coach for nine seasons before accepting the head coaching position at Angelo State University in December 2004.

Critchlow served as assistant coach for offensive line and the running game at Texas A&M-Commerce in 2004. He previously served as an assistant coach at TJC, 1998-2003, supervising the offensive line.
