Wildcats notch home victory over Marshall

As fans entered Wildcat Arena on Friday night, they probably felt more like they were entering a Hawaiian themed winter dance than a basketball game.

The front entrance was decorated with pink flamingos, palm trees, and plants (courtesy of The Market in Whitehouse) with Jimmy Buffett music playing in the background.

Many Whitehouse fans, and of course the coaches, were dressed in beach style attire to add to the theme. What was supposed to be a fun night for fans and coaches started out as a paradise lost.

It was a home game against a team that was 0-5 in district, the Marshall Mavericks. On paper, Marshall relatively had no chance of defeating a sound Whitehouse varsity squad, which was 5-0 in district.

However, after the first quarter, paradise lost began as Whitehouse only held a two point lead over the Marshall Mavericks. That lead would build to eight at the half as the players would leave the gym to the tune of "Cheeseburger in Paradise."

The paradise lost would quickly come to an end during the second half as the Wildcats would come out and put up 45 second half points on their way to a 79-57 win over the Mavericks.

The big win would come on "Jimmy Buffet Night" at Wildcat Arena and the 'Cats would send the Mavericks to Margaritaville as Kyle Ford and Brady Parker would pace the Wildcats in scoring with 20 and 18 points, respectively.

The varsity's record is now 23-2 on the year and 6-0 in district. The "Cats will begin their second half of district play tomorrow night as they play host to the Kilgore Bulldogs immediately following the freshman and JV games
