Troup defeated Waskom 46-44 in a thrilling overtime victory on Friday, Jan. 19. Reginald Wade led his team in scoring with 21 and fired up the home crowd with acrobatic moves.
Troup led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter, but trailed by one going into the locker room at halftime. By the end of the third, Waskom had gained a seven-point advantage.
With six seconds left in regulation, Jiles hit the front end of a one-and-one, tying the game at 39 and forcing an overtime period.
Wade won the jump, and Troup controlled the opening possession of OT, working over a minute off the clock before Wade missed a jump shot.
On Troup's next possession, Jiles was fouled on a layup and went to the line with a chance for a three-point play. He missed the free throw and Wade put the rebound up for two points, but an errant referee's whistle nullified the play.
Waskom scored on their next trip down the court, tying the game at 41 with 2:25 left in OT.
The score was knotted again at 44 with 36 seconds left. Wade hit the winning points on a layup. Waskom had a chance, getting a jump shot off with seven seconds on the clock, but Hasley knocked the rebound out of play as time ran out.
The JV game served as an exciting warm-up, very nearly going to overtime as well. Troup came back from a four-point halftime deficit to win 26-25. Scorers for Troup were Jeremy Richardson with 10, Jake Johnson 7, Nick Reeves 5, Charlie Ralph 3 and Carlos Garcia 1.
The Troup boys and girls are on the road this Friday, playing in Tatum.
