Boys compete in tourney Whitehouse's varsity soccer team participated in the Montgomery Tournament last Friday and Saturday, going 1-1-1 over three matches. First up was Waco University High, in a match-up played on a wet sloppy field. With the condition of the field preventing fast ball movement, the contest was heavy on defense. Waco, a top-ranked team in last year's polls, managed a score mid-way through the first half. Play continued much the same in the second half. Whitehouse had several attempts but was unable to finish on the messy field. Waco recorded the final score on a cross in the box that was deflected off A Wildcat player into the net. Whitehouse improved on the loss with a 1-1 tie against Livingston in their next game. Playing on Montgomery's practice field, a less than perfect surface, the game was a standstill until Whitehouse scored on a penalty kick taken by Paul Metzner. Livingston added a goal for the 1-1 tie. Playing the host team, the Wildcats earned a narrow 1-0 victory in their last appearance of the tournament. Cameron Cooper scored the lone goal, with an assist from Howard Rodriguez. -- Reported by Mark Hays |
