WH swim teams place third

Members of the 2007 girls' district swim team
The Whitehouse Swim Team competed in the District Swim Meet this past Saturday.

Both the girls and the boys teams finished in third place, and senior swimmer Natalie Holcomb earned MVP honors for the third straight year. All of the swim team members will advance to the Regional competition to be held at the University of Houston on Feb. 2-3.

The girls' team was led by gold medal performances, in the individual events, from both Natalie Holcomb and Brittany Wilkens. Natalie finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.28. Brittany finished first in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. Her IM time was 2:25.89, and her breaststroke time was 1:12.40.

The girls also captured their first-ever gold medal in the 400 freestyle relay. The relay team consisted of Natalie Holcomb, Brittany Wilkens, Brittney Wink, and Casi Eyerly.

The girls 200 IM relay team also earned a bronze medal and missed first place by only 6 onehundredths of a second. The 200 IM relay consisted of Natalie Holcomb, Brittany Wink, Brittany Wilkens and Catherine Drott.

Both relay teams will advance to the regional meet, as well as the following individual swimmers: Natalie Holcomb in the 200 and 500 freestyle, Brittany Wilkens in the 200 IM and 100 breastroke, Brittany Wink in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke, and Casi Eyerly in the 100 freestyle.

The boys team was led by Nathan Fulps with a bronze medal in the 200 IM and a fourth place finish in the 100 breastroke.

Also earning a regional berth as an individual were Jeremy Priest in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, as well as Phillip Shafer in the 50 freestyle. Phillip should be commended for swimming with a broken leg, and still qualifying for regionals, said Coach Scott Eeds.

The boys' relay teams are also advancing to the regional swim meet. The boys' 200 IM relay consisted of Jeremy Priest, Nathan Fulps, Will Post, and Timothy Priest.

The boys' 200 freestyle relay consisted of Phillip Shafer, Dylan Davis, Timothy Priest, and Andrew Drott.

The boys also earned a silver medal in their 400 freestyle relay, consisting of Will Post, Andrew Drott, Jeremy Priest, and Nathan Fulps.
