Texas East gymnasts do well in Dallas

Gymnasts from Texas East Gymnastics attended the third annual Metroplex Challenge gymnastics competition at the Dallas Convention Center, with three full meets being held simultaneously in one hall.

Gymnasts from New York, Michigan, Arizona, Colombia and Lithuania got a taste of gymnastics in "Big D." By the end of the weekend, meet host Metroplex Gymnastics had accommodated 1,022 athletes and spectators at the Texas-size competition.

Hometown gymnasts from Tyler, Whitehouse, Flint, Mineola, Nacogdoches, Pollock and Diboll all a put in fine performances for the judges and represented Texas East Gymnastics well, according to coach Martin Parsley.

The TEG girls competed in level 7 through elite, which is Olympic-level.

In this class, Alaina Johnson of Tyler scored 54.65 to place second in all; her individual scores were 13.2 in vault, 14.4 bars (first place), 13.5 beam (third), 13.55 floor (second).

In level 10, Storey Morris of Flint also placed second in all around with 34.775 points. Her individual scores were 9.35 vault (second), 8.125 bars (fifth), 8.25 beam (second), 9.05 floor (third).

Participating in the Metroplex competition were (above, left to right) Amanda Hamilton, Haven Hughes, Cori Roach and Apryl Hansen.
Morgan Key of Nacogdoches scored 8.7 vault (sixth), 7.85 bars (third), 7.825 beam (fifth) and 8.2 floor (seventh) to take third in the all around with 32.575 points.

The top finisher for TEG in level 9 was Denaya Moore of Mineola who took third place in the all around with 36.925 points. Her individual scores were 9.2 vault (third), 9.55 bars (first), 9.175 beam (second) and 9.0 floor (seventh).

Emily Rickman of Tyler scored 8.6 vault (ninth), 8.1 bars, 9.325 beam (third) and 9.175 floor (fourth) to secure ninth place in the all around with 35.2 combined points.

Whitehouse's Erin Odom scored 9.1 vault (fifth), 8.65 bars (10th) and 8.875 floor (ninth).

Ciara Maradiaga of Lindale represented level 8 and finished sixth in all around with 35.675 points. Her scores were 9.05 vault (fifth), 8.85 bars (eighth), 8.775 beam (10th) and 9.0 floor (eighth).

Also competing were (above, left to right) Erin Odom, Emily Rickman and Denaya Moore.
In level 7, Haven Hughes of Bullard won the all around with 37 points. Her individual results were 9.3 vault (first), 9.15 bars (first), 9.2 beam (second) and 9.35 floor (first).

Apryl Hansen of Tyler scored 9.95 vault (fifth), 8.8 bars (fourth), 8.7 beam (eighth) and 9.25 floor (second) to finish fourth in all around with 35.7 points.

Amanda Hamilton of Diboll finished fifth in all around with 35.65 points. Her scores were 8.9 vault (seventh), 8.65 bars (fourth), 9.1 beam (eighth) and 9.0 floor (ninth).

Cori Roach of Pollock scored 8.925 vault (seventh), 9.1 beam (third) and 8.85 floor (ninth).
