Hot check amnesty available The Smith County District Attorney's Office has announced a hot check amnesty + program. Continuing through April 30, 2007, persons who have a hot check on file with the district attorney's Hot Check Division can avoid prosecution if they pay all restitution and applicable fees (and have no criminal history of theft). The District Attorney's Office will request personal recognizance bonds (signature ony bonds) for those check writers with a criminal history of theft that surrender themselves on active Smith County theft by check warrants to the Hot Check Division. Warrant officers will be specially dispatched during this period to arrest those who do not contact the District Attorney's Office pursuant to notice of this program and have warrants for arrest on file with Smith County. |
