Wildcats trap Bobcats at home

The Whitehouse Wildcats faced a situation they had not seen many times this season. Not only were they trailing an opponent at halftime, but they were also trailing that opponent at home.

This was the dilemma that the Cats faced last Tuesday at home against the Hallsville Bobcats as they went into the locker room down, 25-22.

"We just got outworked in every phase of the game in the first half," stated Coach Wally Dawkins. "I felt like our expectations were to just show up and win, and it showed in our play," said Dawkins.

After halftime the Wildcats came out determined to show that the first half was not "Whitehouse" basketball, and a 15-12 third quarter would tie the game headed into the fourth.

The Wildcats then seized control in the fourth quarter and pull away with a 63-53 victory.

Cade Clark led the Wildcats in scoring with 18 points followed closely by Mitch Marquis with 17 points, 11 of those points coming in the fourth quarter. Kyle Ford also reached double figures with 14 points thanks to a strong showing from the line, going 6-7 on the night.

Although the Cats played poorly by Coach Dawkins' standards, and even their own standards, the result was still a win on the way to a pre-season goal of 14-0 in district.

"This could very well be a wake up call for us. We fought hard in the second half, and our kids showed they can rise up to a tough challenge," stated Dawkins.
