Soccer boys battle 'Dogs The Wildcats faced off against Kilgore last Tuesday at home, with the Bulldogs coming off a close loss to Pine Tree. The defeat seemed to inspire Kilgore as they dominated early in the match, keeping the ball on the Cats' end of the field most of the first half, though neither team was able to score and had the same shots on goal. Coach Chris Clemons' halftime speech must have been a good one as his team came out strong. Clemons also made a few changes in the line up and it paid off just seven minutes into the second half when Paul Metzner found Howard Rodriguez open at the top of the box and he put one by the Kilgore keeper for the 1-0 lead. Not five minutes later Caleb Jacque crossed a ball into the 6-yard box and Rodriguez headed it home for the 2-0 lead and his second goal of the night. From there, Whitehouse totally dominated getting off shot after shot, with Metzner firing from 20-25 yards out and Mitchell Muller playing one of his best games this season. The stellar defense was led by Robby Downs, Justin Seal, Drew Dollahite, Jed McNeill and Cameron Cooper. With just 7:27 left in the game, Downs sent a rocket that bounced off the keeper to an awaiting McNeill who recorded his first goal of the season, ending the scoring for the 3-0 win. Justin Parker recorded his eighth shutout of the season. JV ties 1-1 Despite only competing with 10 players, the Whitehouse JV played strong, getting on the scoreboard first when Taylor Burns scored off a deflected corner kick five minutes into the game. The score remained 1-0 until late in the second half when Kilgore finally got of f a shot that keeper Travis Lowthorp was unable to stop, tying the score 1-1. The Cats put together some awesome passing late in the game when Marco Hernandez and Tanner Hays moved the ball into the 18- yard box but were not able to finish, ending the game 1-1. +++ Whitehouse was able to get some extra game time in for some players by scheduling a non-district game with Palestine at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Whitehouse took charge of the game, winning 3-0. |
