Whitehouse kickers defeat Lindale Coaches around the district have all said the same thing: on any given night any one of the eight teams could win, and the Feb. 2 match at Lindale was no different. With Lindale coming off a heart-wrenching 2-1 loss to Pine Tree, and Whitehouse off a double-overtime 2-1 win against Athens, both teams were primed to win. Whitehouse was able to get on the board first when Howard Rodriguez found Paul Metzner open. Metzner was able to get off a bullet that found the back of the net just 15 minutes into the match for the 1-0 Whitehouse lead. The game slowed down the rest of the half with physical play and lots of fouls taking place on the field, and the half ended 1-0. The second half was much the same with the cold winter wind blowing across the field and both defenses stopping the offensive attacks. The only excitement came with just seconds remaining in the game when Lindale managed to send a ball into the box, only to be denied by standout keeper Justin Parker who recorded his seventh shutout of the season, and Whitehouse improved to 8- 2-2 overall and 2-0 in district. WH JV vs. Lindale JV Whitehouse proved to be too much for Lindale as they totally dominated the game, starting the scoring just three minutes into the game. Daniel Peek got the goal off a long throw in from Taylor. Next up was Colton Strother off a pass from Tanner Hays with 19:02 left in the half. Marco Hernandez got in on the action just two minutes later, racing to pay dirt for the 3-0 lead. Strother closed the first-half scoring with an 18-yard shot that rocked the net for the 4-0 halftime lead. The break didn't slow the Cats down as Uhmer Shakur's shot was deflected off the Lindale keeper to Wes Holt who slammed it home for the 5-0 lead three minutes into secondhalf play. Ivan Perez earned the final goal, scoring on a header from a cross by Holt to give his team the 6-0 victory. - Reported by Mark Hays |
