Teams are being solicited for the upcoming Trash-Off in Whitehouse on Saturday, April 14, held in conjunction with the Texas Trash-Off effort of Keep Texas Beautiful.
The Don't Mess with Texas Trash-Off is part of the partnership between Keep Texas Beautiful and the Texas Department of Transportation. It is the single largest one day cleanup event in the state where nearly 100,000 volunteers offer their time to keep the state beautiful.
Trash-Off is also the signature litter prevention event of the Great American Cleanup™, which is sponsored by Keep America Beautiful and takes place throughout the United States March through May.
In preparation for the local effort, Keep Whitehouse Beautiful conducts a litter survey to determine which areas need the most attention; they then deploy more teams to the "dirtiest" spots.
Members of KWB encourage local businesses, civic groups, high school clubs and sports teams, churches and any other interested groups or individuals to pledge a team to the effort.
Registration will be held in City Park the day of the Trash- Off. A limited number of T-shirts will be available for the first groups or individuals to register.
This is one of the many projects that Keep Whitehouse Beautiful contributes to the community; as a result of that contribution, the organization was awarded the 2005 Governor's Community Achievement Award which included a $70,000 grant. The monies will be used at the completion of the widening of FM 346 to beautify the front of the current City Park.
