Malyer 'Tacky' Mitchum Graveside services for Malyer "Tacky" Mitchum, 76, Tyler, were held Feb. 17 at Whitehouse Cemetery with Rev. Josh Blizzard officiating. Mrs. Mitchum went to be with her Lord and Savior on Feb. 15, 2007. She was born April 23, 1930, in Waycross, Ga. After graduating Valedictorian from Whitehouse High School, Tacky married Ray W. Mitchum on June 20, 1948. They have shared 58 wonderful years together. As a longtime Tyler resident, Mrs. Mitchum was a member of Lanes Chapel United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the East Texas Cattlettes. Her hobbies were baking, sewing, gardening, writing, and she was an award winning painter. She has been a resident at Pinehurst Alzheimer's Special Care Facility since May 2004. Mrs. Mitchum was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon J. Dodd and Myrtle Morgan Dodd; sister, Peggy Ray; one brother, Ray M. Dodd; and grandson, Cody M. Patton. Mrs. Mitchum is survived by her husband, Ray W. Mitchum; one daughter and sonin law, Teri and Tony Patton of Tyler; one son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Janet Mitchum of Tyler; three brothers, Byron Dodd of Whitehouse, Weldon "Buddy" Dodd of Mixon, and George Dodd of Jacksonville; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her best friend since fourth grade, Ruby Stanton of Overton. The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials, if desired, be made to Alzheimer's Alliance of Northeast Texas, 3613 S. Broadway Ave., Tyler, 75701; or Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, 75701; or charity of your choice. Tacky's family would like to thank each and everyone of the staff at Pinehurst Alzheimer's Special Care Facility and Hospice of East Texas for their abundant love and care. She is now safe in the arms of Jesus. |
