Lady Cats led by experience
Despite losing their district's defensive MVP Courtney McFarlin, first-team outfielder Brittnee Wilson and secondteam pitcher Jennifer Phillips, the 2007 Whitehouse girls softball team still has talent to spare.
Returning starters from last year's 20-5 squad are Brittany Jordan, short stop; Brittany Newsome, outfield; Stephany Crawford, catcher; Erica Fuller, outfield; and a trio of infielders, Jordan Knight, Megan Brady and Taylor Russell.
Even with the key losses, first-year Lady Cat coach Alicia Crawford is confident of her team's experience.
"We have five seniors and five juniors on varsity. These girls have played in this district and know the competition," said Crawford, who has a 54-26 record as a head coach.
Russell picked up the district's Utility Player of the Year for her 2006 performance. Crawford and Jordan also picked up first-team honors.
Other top returnees include Haley Foster and Haylee Aldredge, outfielders, and Katie Licht, who will split time in the outfield and on the mound.
The Lady Cats fell to Klein Oak, 2-1, in the bi-district round last year.
"This district is always tough. Hallsville, Marshall and Pine Tree will be well-coached and prepared," said Crawford. Henderson and Kilgore join the Lady Cats with new head coaches.
