WH library has 'heart attack' in February

Visitors to storytime were treated to Valentine's surprises.
February began with Mayor Jake Jacobson proclaiming February as "Love Your Library Month" in Whitehouse and area media spotlighting libraries in Smith County.

All month long the Whitehouse Community Library has been having a "heart attack." The windows of the library have red and pink hearts in them with statements from patrons stating why they love their library. These reasons range from "love to read" to the "staff is wonderful" and everything in between, according to Sandra Knackstedt, library director.

The library's Most Romantic Couple contest also took place in February. Patrons were asked what famous couple they thought was "The Most Romantic." Patrons who chose the winning couple had their names put in a drawing for first and second place prizes.

The winning couple was Noah Calhoun and Allie Nelson from "The Notebook," receiving 14 percent of the total votes. Second place went to Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara from "Gone with the Wind" with 10 percent.

Other choices in the contest were Antony and Cleopatra, Richard Collier and Elise McKenna, Elizabeth Bennet and Will Darcy, Lois Lane and Clark Kent, Aladdin and Jasmine, Lucille Ball and Ricky Ricardo, and John and Jackie Kennedy.

Library director Sandra Knackstedt presents gifts to Jeri Prestidge, first place, and Kenneth Smith, second place.
Jeri Prestidge won first place in the drawing, with second place going to Kenneth Smith. Simple Simons Pizza, CVS Pharmacy, TGI Fridays and the library all contributed prizes for the winners.

The library is looking forward to March and April where activities have been planned for Women's History Month and National Library Week, said Knackstedt.
