WH Fire Department receives $121,275 grant

The Whitehouse Volunteer Fire Department will receive a grant of $121,275 to support the firefighters and their work as first responders, announced U.S. Sen. John Cornyn. The funding comes through the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Grants and Training as part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.

"We are excited over being awarded the grant," said Fire Chief Ronny Fite. In line with the grant's usage guidelines for training and support operations or for purchasing safety and rescue equipment, Fite said the Whitehouse VFD will replace its old self-contained breathing apparatus as well as the SCBA compressor system used to fill air bottles.

"This is something we have been in need of doing, but did not have the funds available until we obtained the grant," said Fite.

The department applied for the funds through a grant application written by Gary Traylor & Associates.

"The men and women on the front lines of emergency response need more support than ever, and I applaud the local first responders and area leaders for their work to obtain this important assistance," said Sen. Cornyn.
