Cats win Classic

The Whitehouse varsity took home the championship in the 2007 Wildcat Classic baseball tournament last weekend, winning all four games played.

The Wildcats opened play Thursday with a double-header against Paris and Greenville.

Whitehouse 13, Paris 5

In the opener against Paris, Whitehouse fell behind early 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth. The inning would produce seven runs as Heath Mayo got it stated with a triple to right center and then scored on a single by Chase West.

West then scored on a RBI single from Blake Turman, and the inning capped with a 2-RBI single by Ryan Bell.

The Wildcats tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth as Banks Brandon singled and later score on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Miner to make the score 9-5.

The game ended 13-5 as the Cats scored four more in the bottom of the sixth highlighted by a double by Cody Brown. Miner went the distance for the win.

Whitehouse 13,

Greenville 3

The double-header game against Greenville followed suit, as the Wildcats dug themselves into a 3-0 hole before tying the game in the first inning, 3-3.

The bottom of the third proved to be the big blow for the Wildcats as they pushed across eight runs taking advantage of six walks, two errors, and a wild pitch to take an 11-3 lead.

The game ended on a 10-run rule in the bottom of the seventh as Bell led off with a double followed by a single from Seth Cashion. Both scored on a triple by Grant Brandon.

Chase West picked up the win as the lone Wildcat pitcher.

Whitehouse 8,

Wills Point 3

In Friday's action, Whitehouse took on Wills Point. Brady Attaway started for the Cats and went the distance in an 8-3 win.

The Wildcats were down 2-0 in the top of the second before picking up three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Cashion started the inning off with a single following a walk by Grant Brandon. Consecutive walks by Attaway and Banks Brandon tied the game at 2-2 before Brown's sacrifice fly gave the Cats the lead.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the third highlighted by a double by Grant Brandon and a two-RBI single by Brown.

The scoring stopped in the bottom of the fifth, as Turman connected on a two-run homer. The win set up the championship game Saturday against Central.

Whitehouse 9, Central 2

The Cats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a two-RBI double by Bell who later scored along with Grant Brandon on a triple by Turman.

Those runs would prove to be enough for the Wildcat pitching staff, as Grant Brandon threw four solid innings before giving way to Mayo for the fifth.

The Cats scored two more runs in the bottom of the second as Bell led off with his second double of the game. He trotted home as Cashion followed with a two-run homer to left field.

The scoring ended in the fourth for the Wildcats as Bell scored on a single by West, and Caleb Toole stole home in a first and third situation.

"This was a solid tournament for us," said Coach Danny Robey. "We have got a lot of games in early. We continued with our good hitting this weekend, and our pitchers did a really good job."

With the four wins, the Wildcats extend their winning streak to six games and their season record to 7-3 as they travel to New Caney for a tournament with the first game being tonight at 7:30 p.m.
