Spring break fishing event scheduled

Looking for something to do on your spring break? Try out The Nature Center's Spring Break Trout Fest.

The youth fishing event will be 8:30 a.m. to noon March 12- 16. All youth must be supervised by an adult at all times. Only rainbow trout (five per day) and channel catfish (one per day) may be kept by each participant.

No fishing license or pre-registration is required, and this event is free to all participants.

Recommended equipment includes a light action rod and reel combination (on per child) with very small fishing hooks, light line (less than 12 lb. test), small bobbers and small split shots. For bait, bring whole kernel corn, small worms or prepared trout bait (Berkley PowerBait or similar). Small rooster tail spinners work well but the center requires participants to use single hooks only on this bait type.

If you intend to keep fish, bring a stringer or cooler.

The Nature Center is located on FM 848 (Bascom Road). Parking will be available in designated areas only.

For more information, contact Dave Terre, TPW's regional fisheries director, 903-566- 1615, ext. 200 or 202.
