Boys down Pine Tree This game would most likely decide the district champion and what a game it was. The Pirates came out on fire the first half, outshooting the Cats 9-3, but neither team was able to score. The Cats needed to win in regulation to take over first place. Coach Clemons' halftime speech must have been a good one as the Cats came out with more aggressive play in the second half. It paid off with 8:48 left in the game when Eric O'Neill took the ball to the top of the box and passed back to Paul Metzner who launched a low shot that found the corner of the goal for what would be the game winner. The last minutes of the game were intense as the Pirates picked up the pace but the Cats defense, led by Drew Dollahite, Robby Downs, Justin Seal and Jed Mcneill, shut down their attack. Standout goalkeeper Justin Parker recorded his 13th shutout of the season. The Cats improved their overall record to 15-3-2 and 10-1-0 in district. In the JV contest, the Cats took one on the chin as the Pirates totally dominated the game. The Pirates scored three goals in the first half and two in the second to shut out the Cats 5-0. --Reported by Mark Hays |
