Lady Cats take 2nd in TNT

The varsity Lady Cat softball squad placed second in the Tyler TNT. In pool play they beat Chapel Hill Mount Pleasant 5-0, lost to Grand Saline 6-4, and beat Slocum 13 - 3. They won first in the pool on a tie-breaker.

In bracket play, the girls played Mineola and tied 2-2, but advanced with more runners to third base.

In a rematch with Chapel Hill Mount Pleasant in the next round, the Lady Cats won 6-0 and advanced to the championship game against Lindale.

Due to the tournament schedule being behind, the teams played an abbreviated five-inning game, with Whitehouse falling 4- 2.

Prior to their Lone Star Blowout appearance, the Whitehouse Lady Cats posted a 5-3 record, including play at Lear Park in the Longview tournament Feb. 15-17.

First up, the Lady Cats defeated West Monroe, 6-1, powered by two-run homers from Stephany Crawford and Taylor Russell. Russell and Brittany Jordan both went 2-for-4 in the game.

Friday, Feb. 16 began with a loss and ended in victory as Ruston defeated Whitehouse 10- 6, but the Lady Cats rebounded to beat Haughton, 5-2, led by pitcher Emily Costlow with 11 strikeouts and just 2 walks.

Against Ruston, Brittany Jordan was 3-for-4 at the plate, Russell and Erica Fuller were 2-3 and Megan Brady was 2-4. In the win, Katie Licht went 2-2, Russell and Brady 2-3 and Jordan 2-4.

On Saturday, the Lady Cats fell to Airline, 5-3. Good news for the team, despite the loss, was the return of Jordan Knight, who joined the team at the close of basketball season and went 2-for- 3 in her first outing.

Knight's defensive skills played a role in the Lady Cats' 2- 1 win over Southwood as she recorded 7 assists and 4 put-outs.

Following the tournament, the girls recorded a home loss to North Lamar, 2-1, on Feb. 20. Jordan and Costlow went 2-for-3, Russell 2-4 and Megan Brady 1-1 (plus three walks).

In a big road win, the Lady Cats routed Corsicana 15-1 on Feb. 27 (the game was called after the fifth inning on the run rule). Russell went 2-for-4 with a tworun homer. Knight (3-4) added a triple, and Brady (2-4) a double. Chelsey Boulware went 1-2, including a two-RBI single.

On the mound, Costlow struck out seven and walked three.
