Defensive standout Chad Emmons has signed with Ouachita Baptist University in Akadelphia, Ark. Emmons started the year at quarterback before switching to the cornerback position, one of the early-season personnel moves that helped the Wildcats claim the Area Championship.
"The fact that he played this position only one year makes his recruitment that much more impressive," said secondary coach Jason Shuck, adding that he believes cornerback is the toughest defensive position.
Emmons earned several end-of-season accolades, including first-team All District, honorable mention All East Texas, honorable mention Academic All State and honorable mention All State (Texas Sports Writers Association).
"We are very excited for Chad: number one, to be able to go to a great school and further his education; number two, to be able to play football," said head coach Randy McFarlin. "I think he will find out education comes first and playing is for fun."
The Division II school is a member of the Gulf South Conference and was ranked in the top five academically by U.S. News and World Report.
"I'm really excited to be able to play football at Ouachita," said Emmons. "I want to thank the coaches for all they've done. I've had a really good experience at Whitehouse."
"Chad has really grown and matured at Whitehouse," said McFarlin. "Whatever lies ahead, he can handle and go forward."
