May balloting narrows for city, school elections

Johnson
Local voters will have very few names to choose from this May. Only Troup ISD has a contested race, with Hank Gilbert filing for incumbent Johnny Johnson's sixth seat on the school board. In the other spot, incumbent Bill Lacy has filed to return.

Whitehouse ISD saw only the incumbents, Kevin Cashion and Vince Primo, file for their positions. Whitehouse City Council places one, three and five will be filled by the returning council members Bill Powers, Danny Hogden and Dale Moran. No other takers came forward.

In Troup, city council places up for grabs were one, three and four. Jeff Hale filed for seat one, Nancy Boothe returns to her place three and Chip Richardson returns to his place four on the council.

The City of Whitehouse will still be holding an election seek- ing the voters' approval of a proposed $3 million to fund the development of a city park project, including the construction of a street connecting FM 346 to Hillcreek Road. The issue was forced to the voters after validation of a citizen petition.

Election Day is May 12, with the Whitehouse polling location at the First United Methodist Church, and Troup's voting spot the Cameron J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library.
