Alta Vera Vickey QUITMAN - A celebration of life for Alta Vera Vickery, 91, of Quitman was held March 10 at First United Methodist Church of Quitman with Brother Fred Morrow and the Rev. Ken Archer officiating. Scripture was read by Pastor Stanley Vickery, nephew of Mrs. Vickery. Burial was at Roselawn Cemetery in Mineola under the direction of Lowe Funeral Home Quitman. Mrs. Vickery passed away on March 7, 2007 in Tyler after a lengthy illness. Alta Vera Vickery was born on Oct. 4, 1915 in Chico to the late Wilson and Emma Jones. She was the youngest of seven children. Alta graduated from Chico High School, attended Draughn Business College and worked at Bowen Motor Coaches in Fort Worth prior to her marriage in 1938 to Virgil Vickery. She was preceded in death by her six siblings and husband. She is survived by two daughters, Linda Nichols of Whitehouse and Brenda Carey of Longview. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Julie Hanks and husband Dee of Flint, Diana Loft and husband Jason of Arlington, Brian Carey and fiancee Leanne Smith of Dallas, Lynette Fuller and husband Dan of Whitehouse, Amy Carey of Sherman Oaks, Calif., and Emily Dauphin of San Antonio. Seven great-grandchildren were her pride and joy: Stephanie Hawkins, Andrew Hanks, Collin Hanks, Trevor Batton, Grant Hanks, Madison Kirkpatrick and Ethan Dauphin. Mrs. Vickery is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Brian Carey, Dee Hanks, Andrew Hanks, Collin Hanks, Jason Loft and Dan Fuller.
