The Whitehouse varsity baseball team claimed fourth place in the New Caney Tournament last weekend. Whitehouse would find itself in a pool with Aldine Eisenhower, Livingston and Cleveland.

Whitehouse v. Aldine

Eisenhower

In the first pool game on Thursday night against Aldine, the Wildcats would fall short to the Eagles by a score of 4-3.

Ryan Miner would take the loss going the first four innings with Chase West pitching the final three innings. Miner would strike out 10 in his four innings of work, but three runs by Aldine in the fifth before West came in, would be too much for the 'Cats to overcome.

The Wildcat bats would grow cold, but the sixth inning gave the 'Cats another chance. While trailing 4-0 headed into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Wildcats would strike up a two-out rally as Miner and Ryan Bell would get back-to-back singles.

Seth Cashion would hit a deep fly ball to right center which would get misplayed for a two base error and would score Miner and Bell. Heath Mayo would then double to left scoring Cashion, but the 'Cats could not get the tying run across in a one-run loss.

Whitehouse v. Livingston

On Friday afternoon, Mayo would take the mound for the 'Cats against Livingston. Although the Wildcats would out hit Livingston 10-9, three errors would prove costly in a 9-5 loss.

Grant Brandon would go 2-3 in the game with 2 RBI's and a run scored while Cashion would go 2-4. Cody Brown, Miner, Bell, Mayo, Blake Turman, and Banks Brandon would all have a hit on the afternoon, but the 'Cats could not push enough runs across to get the win.

Whitehouse v. Cleveland

The second game on Friday evening would see the bats come alive for the Wildcats in a 12-2 win over Cleveland, which saw Whitehouse collect 15 hits in the five inning game shortened by the 10-run mercy rule.

Grant Brandon would be the benefactor of the offensive outburst as he would get the win on the hill. Cashion would lead the hit brigade with a 3-3 game driving in 3 with two triples and a double.

Banks Brandon would also go perfect at the plate with a 2-2 game driving in three runs. Evan Beaton would have a 3-3 game driving in a run while Grant Brandon would help his own cause going 2-3 with 2 RBI's. West would also pick up an RBI on a 1-3 night.

The Wildcats would take the second seed in their pool thanks to their blow out of Cleveland who had previously beaten Aldine by a score of 5-4.

Whitehouse v. Caney

Creek

Saturday's game against Caney Creek would turn into a pitcher's duel as Brady Attaway would get the start and throw three strong innings before giving way to West, who would throw a scoreless final three innings.

The 'Cats would only produce one run off of the Caney Creek ace and that would come in the first inning when lead off batter Brown reached first base on an infield hit. He then stole second base, which put him in scoring position. Mayo would then hit a grounder to first base that would go into right field on an error by Caney Creek's first baseman that would score Brown.

Caney Creek would take advantage of two Whitehouse errors in the third to push two runs across in a 2-1 victory.

"I was proud of the way we played in the tournament," stated Coach Danny Robey noting the fact that the 'Cats had more hits in each game than their opponents other than the last game of the tournament.

"We should have won the game against Aldine, but we just didn't hit that good. I feel we were just as good of a team as Livingston, but things just did not go our way," said Coach Robey.

Due to a rain out, Whitehouse will finish its game with Kilgore Thursday at 6 p.m. Play will resume in the bottom of the fourth, with WH leading 8-3.
