Whitehouse students shine at UIL contest

Pictured in the top photo are members of Whitehouse Junior High School's academic team that recently participated in UIL. Combined with sixth grade competitors from Holloway Middle School (pictured above), Whitehouse finished third overall. By grade level, the eighth graders earned third place, the seventh graders second and the sixth graders third.
During the March 3 University Interscholastic League event held at Pine Tree Junior High sixth, seventh and eighth grade students from Whitehouse competed in several contests.

Jenny Wallace, UIL sponsor for Holloway Middle School and Tawana Blair, UIL Sponsor at Whitehouse Junior High are proud to announce the results.

In Ready Writing seventh grader Morgan Bridges finished first with Darian Russell coming in second. In the eighth grade division Jenna Copeland took first with April Fleming following her at second place.

Morgan Bridges took second place in Editorial Writing with Darian Russell finishing fourth for seventh grade. In eighth grade competition Chelsey Ivie took fifth.

Three Whitehouse contestants placed in the sixth grade art contest. Troy Haden took third while Chelsea Crawford took fifth and Molly Henderson tied for sixth place.

In Maps, Graphs and Charts sixth grader Josh Noble placed fourth. Seventh graders Alex Johnson, Seth Swinney and Andrew Struble took second, third and fifth places. Eighth graders Linda Smith and Jenna Copeland took fourth and fifth places.

The Spelling competition brought a fourth place finish for sixth grader Holly Moran and a fifth place finish for Jayme Lawrence. In the seventh grade level Kim Carpio finished fourth and Kaitlin Johnson finished fifth. Eighth grader Caroline Weathers placed fourth.

The Music Memory competition saw sixth grader Anna Hayden place fifth.

In Calculator Alex Johnson placed sixth in the seventh grade group and Jenna Copeland placed fifth in the eighth grade group.

Dictionar y Skills brought Higgins' sixth grader Angela Knight a first place slot with Jordan Snell tying for second. In the seventh grade section Kim Carpio finished second and eighth grader Mallory Dolan finished fourth.

The Number Sense competition saw Jack Terrell take first among the sixth graders with Jamie Allen taking fifth and Jared Raabe taking sixth. Alex Johnson finished fifth among the seventh graders.

Tailor Jackson placed fourth in Prose Reading for seventh grade while Caroline Weathers and Kate Morh finished fifth and sixth for eighth grade.

Poetry Reading saw Julie Moore take sixth place in the sixth grade group with Caleb Stewart taking third in the eighth grade group.

In Mathematics Jack Terrell and Jared Raabe took first and second among sixth graders with Cory Lusk taking sixth place. Alex Johnson took fourth among seventh grade.

Sixth grade Social Studies contest had Josh Noble finishing in fourth place for sixth graders and Linda Smith took fourth place for eighth graders.

Impromptu competition had only one Whitehouse winner in Kate Ray who placed third in the eighth grade group.

In Modern Oratory Kate Morh placed first and April Fleming places third among eighth graders.

In the sixth grade Science contest Chris Kunzman and Jared Raabe tied for second place while Sophia Wade placed fourth. In seventh grade Nathan Adams came in third and Alex Johnson came in fourth. Among eighth grade competitors Spencer McDonald came in third and Hayden Welda came in fifth.

Whitehouse students showed strong in the Listening Skills contest. Kiley Miles placed first for sixth graders. Seth Swinney placed first in seventh grade with Andrew Struble coming in fourth. In eighth grade, Kaleb Bass placed second and Linda Smith placed third.

Overall Whitehouse finished third competing against six area schools.
