Rain interrupts Kilgore game

The Whitehouse Wildcats varsity baseball team would travel to Kilgore last Tuesday for its district opener against the Bulldogs.

Ryan Miner would help his cause on the hill as he would collect an RBI single in the top of the first scoring Cody Brown who reached on an error to stake the Wildcats to an early 1- 0 lead.

After the Bulldogs tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the first, the Wildcats would strike for four runs in the top of the second highlighted by a triple from Ryan Bell and singles from Brady Attaway, Banks Brandon, and Seth Cashion.

The lead would extend to 8- 3 in the top of the fourth when Bell would double and score on a single by Heath Mayo who would later score on a single by Chase West.

Just as the Wildcats had the momentum and had knocked Kilgore's starting pitcher from the mound, the skies opened up and the rain began to fall on Driller Park forcing the game to be halted and finished on Thursday night.

The momentum gained by the Wildcats on Tuesday would soon disappear on Thursday night as the Bulldogs scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score at 8-8.

Then, the Wildcats would get those five runs back in the top of the fifth as Miner would come up with a big 2-RBI single, and Kilgore would misplay a grounder by Grant Brandon at first that would lead to two more Wildcat runs.

The lead would not last long as Kilgore would score four runs in the bottom of the fifth and then six more in the bottom of the sixth to take a wild 18-13 victory.

"Who knows what would have happened if the rain had not come Tuesday night," said Coach Danny Robey. "We definitely had the momentum and were hitting good."
