Pigs, pies and picnic tables!
Junior Livestock Show begins today

Youth from across the county will converge onto the East Texas fairgrounds to take part in the 31st annual Smith County Junior Livestock Show and Scholarship.

The three-day event showcases the hard work and talents of 4-H, Future Farmers of America and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members. Events began today, continue Friday and conclude with the sale of champions on Saturday at 2 p.m.

A silent auction for the home economics food division is Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday, there will be a silent auction beginning at noon for home economics projects and shop projects.

Students from Whitehouse High School participating in the ag events are Derek Parker and Jodie Peterson with a custom-designed welding trailer; Kyle Casey with a 10' utility trailer; Austin Deewerdt, Amanda Robinson and Clint Dollison with a 12' utility trailer; Monica and Dakota Nelson with their restored 1946 Farmall H tractor; Derek Parker with a barbecue pit; Blake Turman and Mitchell Mueller with a pair of plant stands; Alex Bates with a barrow; Jessica Huff with broilers; and Dakota Nelson with broilers.

Three Whitehouse girls are participating in the home economics division: Ashley Potter, caramel-topped amaretto poppy seed cake, honey bun cake, birdhouse fountain and Dalmation with hydrant fountain; Lacie Farley, orange blossoms cake, pink candy and photograph; and Stephanie Evans, latch-hook rug, fabric belt and chocolate cake.

The public is invited to all events of the show, free of charge.
