Tigers improve district mark to 6-1

The Troup Tigers improved to 17-3 overall and 6-1 in district play with wins over Garrison and Arp last week.

Troup routed Garrison Tuesday, March 27, winning 10-0 in five innings.

Austin Braswell picked up the win.

Offensively, the Tigers were led by Joel Hasley who went 2-for-3, Brice Clark at 3- for-3 and Preston Pittinger 2- for-3.

Facing off against archrival Arp on Friday, March 30, the Tigers pulled off a one-run win, 4-3.

Nick Harrison pitched a complete game, improving his win/loss record to 6-0.

At the plate, Harrison also went 2-for- 3 with a d o u b l e . Clark also finished 2- for-3, inc l u d i n g two RBIs.

W i t h the Tigers p l a y i n g like contenders to repeat as District 19-2A champs, several players made the Area Softball/Baseball statistics rankings in the Tyler Morning Telegraph (through March 27 games).

Leading the way was Nick Harrison, who ranked number one in pitching with a 0.44 earned run average.

"Nick is a solid pitcher for our program. He has good velocity and can be ver y tough to hit when his offspeed pitches are working," said Troup head coach Cal Sparks. "More importantly, he has been a consistent competitor on the mound, which is evident by his success."

The senior hurler also placed fourth in wins (5) and second in strikeouts (63).

At the plate, he's hitting .431, placing him 10th in hits with 25, second in triples with 4 and 12th in RBIs with 16.

Other Tigers among the area leaders in individual sta- tistics are:

Brice Clark, batting .444 and placing 11th in hits with 24 and seventh in home runs with 2;

Joel Hasley, fifth in doubles with 5;

Cody Deese, sixth in triples with 2;

Austin Braswell, sixth in runs with 24; 11th in RBIs with 16; first in saves with 3; second in innings pitched with 32.2; first in saves with 3.

Adam Voigt, 10th in RBIs with 17; seventh in wins with 4.

Troup's junior varsity baseball team improved its record to 7-1 with a 4-3 win over Arp Friday night, following up on a championship at the West Rusk Junior Varsity Tournament.

Lady Tigers 0, Arp 10

Troup's Lady Tigers fell to Arp's Lady Tigers Friday, with junior Janna Ross recording the loss.

Next up for the Tiger baseball and softball teams is West Rusk at home on Friday.
