Fund-raisers planned for Arp kindergartner

Benefits for Arp kindergartner Jackson Huse are planned for Friday and Saturday, April 13-14. Jackson was diagnosed with a brain tumor in December and has been undergoing further tests and treatment in Houston and at the Ronald McDonald House/Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

On Friday, a concert and auction are planned at Arp City Park from 6-9 p.m. Performers will be Scott Rhame and Cross Country Band with special guest Carissa Amberly.

Tickets will be sold for drawings, and an auction will be held for things such as an autographed Nolan Ryan baseball, four tickets to a Rangers game and much more.

In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Arp Elementary School.

Food will be provided by Big Dave's BBQ and Daniel Boone's Bean and Burgers.

The second fund-raiser is a semi-pro football game planned for 7 p.m. Saturday at Arp High School Stadium. The East Texas Wolves will take on the Texas Xtreme. Tickets are $4 and $2.

Proceeds from the two benefits will go to the Jackson Huse fund at Arp State Bank. If you would like to make a donation to the fund, call 903-859- 2211.

Jackson is the son of Johna and Doug Huse. Johna is the principal at Arp Elementary.

Jackson's tumor was detected in December following a series of hospital visits in Dallas, For t Worth and the Mayo Clinic. Jackson has been very upbeat in the face of the severe headaches which led to the discovery of the brain tumor and the round of hospital tests and treatments that have followed. As another means of raising funds to help the family with its medical bills, the school has been selling neon green shirts with the phrase "Bring it On!" - borrowed from Jackson's own personal slogan, "Bring it on, brain weed!"

For more information about the benefits, call Gloria Rhame at 903-539-8211.
