No action taken by council on property access

During the regular session of the Troup City Council, after meeting in executive session, the council took no action on problems encountered with property access as related to the 2005 Texas Community Development Program Grant for water and sewer improvements. These access problems relate to sewer line replacement in the area southeast of the in- tersection of Bryant and Price streets.

Council approved the tax-resale deed relating to tract 2 property located on Bailey Street. A bid of $1150 was accepted.

An item pertaining to a manufactured home ordinance was dispensed with and removed from future agendas due to it being involved in future zoning matters.

Also an item considering an ordinance changing the review requirements of certain replats submitted to the City for approval was tabled until the May meeting.

Councilmember Wilson asked that the contract of the current waste management vendor, Allied Waste, be looked over very carefully to check the rates they are charging commercial customers for roll-offs. There have been many complaints about outrageous charges and difficulty in getting ser vice when it is needed.

City secretary Cheryl Jimerson said there have been approximately 20 complaints about service related issues on the waste removal provider in the past month. Mayor Whitsell requested that the councilmember's report be put in writing so that it can be further investigated.

Not presented during the meeting, but distributed by Officer Shawn Murry of the Troup PD, was a report of arrests, citations, warnings and city ordinance violations. From Feb. 6 to April 5, 2007 Troup PD has made 25 arrests.

In that same time period 225 citations have been issued with $42,399 in fines assessed, $21,074 fines collected with city revenue of $8,377 collected.

Warnings issued numbered 217 and city ordinance violations written were 5. All of the ordinance violations were for abandoned vehicles.

Since Oct. 1, 2006 to April 5, 2007 there have been a total of 65 arrests, 678 citations issued, total fines assessed $150,324, total fines collected $54,176 and total city revenue of $19,972. A total of 938 warnings were issued and 21 city ordinance violations cited.

Reserve Officer Sergeant Frank Blake has joined the force. He comes with 41 years of experience in law enforcement having retired from three different agencies.

School Resource Officer Lanny Becker will transfer from Troup PD to the SRO (School Resource Officer) position beginning April 16. Patrol Officer Edward Brown will be replacing Becker as a full-time patrol officer beginning April 16.
