Wildcat yearbook named Star finalist

Jordan Jackson, WHS yearbook photography editor, and Brittnee Davis, WHS yearbook editor, hold copies of the 2006 Wildcat yearbook that was recently nominated for a prestigious award. Both Davis and Jackson were part of the staff that worked to put together this yearbook.
The 2006 Wildcat Yearbook has been named as a finalist for "Star" rating by the Interscholastic League Press Association, which is governed by UIL. The yearbook earned the "Award of Distinguished Merit," which is ILPC's highest honor, in addition to being named a "Star" finalist.

To qualify as a finalist, yearbooks are sent to judges who have earned the title of "specialist" through their years of yearbook work and numerous awards. Yearbooks are judges according to several criteria.

First, the judge critiques each book to help the staff make its book one the students of the school will enjoy and also to help the staff follow journalistic guidelines. The critic judge then evaluates the yearbook on its effectiveness of recording the school year. Finally, the judge decides whether that book has done an outstanding job in all areas.

"You have done an outstanding job and created a great product for the students at Whitehouse High School," the yearbook judge wrote in the yearbook evaluation guide. "I hope they appreciate your work and effort. You have set yourself up for continuing a great tradition in outstanding yearbooks."

Star awards will be presented at the Grand Awards Assembly on April 22 at the conclusion of the ILPC Convention.

Yearbook adviser Pam Miller and four yearbook staff members will attend the convention in Austin.
