Early voting until May 8 for WH, Troup elections

Early voting for the May 12 election continues through Tuesday, with a contested school board race in Troup and a $3 million bond issue in Whitehouse.

Incumbent Johnny Johnson is being challenged by Hank Gilbert, while trustee Bill Lacy is running unopposed.

Whitehouse voters are considering a bond package for a 24-acre city park and thoroughfare. (See related information, page 5A.) City council members Bill Powers, Danny Hogden and Dale Moran are all up for re-election and are running unopposed.

Early voting hours through May 4 are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extended hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. will be available Monday and Tuesday, May 7- 8. Troup ISD voters may cast their ballots at the Cameron-J. Jarvis Municipal Library, 102 S. Georgia St. The Whitehouse polling location is the First United Methodist Church, 405 W. Main St.

Election Day hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the same locations.

Early voting ballots in Troup and Whitehouse do not include the state's proposed constitutional amendment regarding property tax reductions for senior citizens and the disabled. The amendment will be on the May 12 election ballot.

Early voters can cast a vote on this issue at the Smith County Courthouse Annex.
