Julietta Jarvis

Julietta Jarvis, former mayor of the City of Troup and a member of one of the founding families of the city, died on April 27, 2007 in Tyler. Private graveside services were held at Bradford Cemetery in Troup under direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home, Tyler.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Julian and Mary Frances Jarvis, and a daughter, Frances Wahlstrand.

Jetta graduated from Troup High School, Stephens College, University of Texas at Austin, and University of Houston Law School, cum laude. She was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, American Bar Association, Texas Bar Association, First United Methodist Church of Troup, and a director of Arp State Bank. She was employed by Prudential Life Insurance, Schlumberger Limited, and in private practice in Houston. She was one of the two founders of the Cameron-J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library and was a member of the board. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Tyler Museum of Art and the Houston and Dallas operas. In 1989 she was named Texas Outstanding Tree Farmer, and she received the Troup Women's Civic Organization's 2005 Woman of the Year Award.

She is survived by cousins, Eleanor and Dr. Harold B. Cameron, Tyler, Annell and Dr. Clarence Schoenvogel, College Station, Mary and Ben Jarvis, Tyler, and Dr. Sara Jones, Austin.
